CHÂTEAU BOEUF

CHÂTEAU BOEUF quality beef from France is an brand that is exclusively available at REWE. You can recognise the meat by its fresh and appetizing appearance in the service counter or the self-service areas, but also by the brand logo if necessary.

The young bull meat of this brand comes without exception from strictly controlled cattle from traditional French family farms in Normandy & Brittany. These were all handpicked on site. The breeders, but also the cutting plants are regularly visited by employees to ensure a continuous exchange and constant quality. As with all brands delivered by the exclusive supplier R&S, the origin of the animals can be traced from birth to the sales counter.

Many chefs, hobby cooks and REWE customers have already been able to convince themselves of the excellent yet affordable quality of the young bull meat of the CHÂTEAU BOEUF brand. Especially the numerous product presentations in the REWE stores are always well attended and the feedback is overwhelming.

The professional chef from Essen, Patrick Jabs, has also become a big fan of CHÂTEAU BOEUF. According to his statement, he appreciates above all the handling of perfect cuts from the French dismantling companies. As a result, there are considerably fewer cuts in the kitchen and this in turn contributes to sustainability.

On the brand’s website, but also on Facebook, you will find a few “profiles” of participating farmers. In addition – and I’m sure this will be very interesting for you as well – you’ll find the data on the tasting events mentioned above. If you are lucky, there will be an event  around the corner and you will be able to get a picture of the quality of the meat.

The cattle breeds from which the young bull meat comes are the meat and dual purpose cattle breeds Charolais, Blonde d’Aquitaine, Normande, Limousin, Salers, Montbéliarde and their crossbreeds. The meat of all these cattle, which graze on the pasture and are otherwise only fed on silage, barley meal & corn, impresses not only with its tenderness but also with the little bit of intramuscular fat it needs to stay juicy.

The animals are reared in a manner appropriate to their species until slaughter in the interests of animal welfare and usually spend the first six months with their mothers on pastures. After that they are kept with sufficient space in small groups and open stables. As with SCOTLAND HILLS, this means that the animals are often on the pastures while the rearing process.

The CHÂTEAU BOEUF brand is of course also subject to continuous control with regard to rearing, keeping and slaughtering. During the lifetime of the animals, all production processes are therefore monitored on the basis of a register of burdens of the French Association of Butchers and Farmers – in other words, just as closely as we Germans do.

Great care is taken to ensure that the animals – usually between the 18th and 24th month of life – are on their way from the breeding farms to the slaughterhouse for a maximum of three hours. In addition, another eight hours are spent at the slaughterhouse to allow the animals to rest before they are professionally slaughtered according to animal welfare standards.

Since the brand is specifically aimed at supporting family farms in France, CHÂTEAU BOEUF always has the issue of sustainability “in its luggage”. Ideally, the purely vegetable feed is grown and prepared by the farmers themselves. In addition, the participating farms and production sites are constantly working to keep their water requirements low. According to the German TÜV Süd, 25% of the process water at the certified cutting plants is already treated ecologically. CHÂTEAU BOEUF works on site with the experienced French meat processor Socopa Viandes Cherré.

One tastes the quality to the meat of the mark CHÂTEAU BOEUF on – all the same which part of the young bull – the employment of this meat is with cooking already “the half rent”. I couldn’t think of a dish that the French young bull meat wouldn’t be suitable for.

I wish you a lot of fun trying it out – or maybe at the next tasting at REWE around the corner!
