Slowman at Reichshof Hotel Hamburg

…recently at the Slowman. It was time to try the praised Cordon Bleu from the organic pig at the Slowman – and the Reichshof was right on my way…

It was December the 21st around 9:20 PM when I entered the Slowman – the waitress was friendly and attentive. However, I was irritated by the remark of the waiter that at “this time of day” only one main course could be ordered – “Last Order” like.

For someone who grew up in Berlin this sounded more than premature, but at least not like a cosmopolitan city.

The Cordon Bleu was served very quick, it was crispy, the meat pleasantly firm and juicy. The filling was just so strong that it did not “collide” with the taste of the organic pig. The cheese also made a spicy and harmonious contribution to the grandiose overall impression of the Cordon Bleu.

The side dish was a handmade, really tasty “crispy mashed potato” and, according to the menu, it came with minted peas from the hotels own herb garden.

In addition to its balanced taste and homemade consistency, the mashed potato shone with its crunchy component – a few slices of potatoes and sweet potatoes – a very clever idea and the mix of textures was convincing.

The peas were crunchy and tasty – but I wasn’t the only one looking for the mint. When the waiter asked at the kitchen for it, the boss himself reported that the component mint was still on the menu, but unfortunately could not be served during the winter months – seasonally, he said – OK, there was at least the chance to indicate that in advance.

My Conclusion

A really great Cordon Bleu, for this quality absolutely nice priced – a hint of the waiter regarding to the missing mint would have been nice – my recommendation despite all “go and try” – …but please not after 21:30…;-)

Update 01

In the meantime, I had the opportunity to try the “minted peas ” with the Cordon Blue, a nice highlight. This time it was a Cordon Blue togo, whereby the Slowman, in addition to consistently competent and friendly service, also came up with remarkably good packaging quality.

Update 02

Calzone to Go. Another takeaway at the Slowman, this time pizza…a wafer-thin Calzone with cheese and wild garlic filling – to the point, top packed and extremely tasty – certainly better than the tourist fraud in the vicinity of the Slowman/ Reichshof.

Update 03

The Slowman has now moved out of the Reichshof – should I be in Hamburg in the future, I’d be happy to drop by at the new location – more about the new location at http://www.slowman.de/
