St. Georg Steakhouse Tomahawk

Steakhouse St. Georg

August 2016 – Steakhouse St. Georg
Reservation

The restaurant is quite big, but for huge “projects” we recommend to reserve a room in the Steakhouse St. Georg.

Ambience

We were welcomed very friendly and felt comfortable from the first minute on. Especially pleasant was the fact that we were offered wardrobe and bags to stow for us right after the greeting.

The restaurant is quite big and is divided into three different areas – according to one’s own preferences one can rather sit in the back part, in the middle part watching the cooking or close to the entrance area (still in front of the counter) you can “bathe in the crowd” if you wants to have people around – when the weather is good there are also some tables directly in front of the restaurant.

The area next to the counter houses the cash desk and serves as a small reception area.

Last but not least, the interior of the Steakhouse St. Georg reminded us of a well-known Steakhouse chain with headquarter in Hamburg – whereby, I must mention, the enthusiasm in the Steakhouse St. Georg for the guest and also the meat quality are clearly better than with the “original” – but more about that later.

The restaurant is clearly structured, not playful – let’s say functional and tidy. The only flaw in the ambience – the lighting situation – it could be much brighter, and the light distribution on the tables more even to put the culinary highlights even better in the right light.

The Business Card

The toilets were clean and made a neat impression – here could be optimized with some decoration & fragrance.

Service

Our service was fast, friendly and courteous – if a glass was empty, they reacted without further ado basically, the wishes were read off our lips.

Starters

With our Tomahawk Steaks project, it was obvious that starters would unnecessarily limit capacity – but that didn’t change the fact that we ordered at least a carpaccio and a portion of bruschetta.

The carpaccio was fantastic – very fresh, the slices of beef very thin and room temperatured – not too much rocket salad, a very tasty parmesan – a good virgin olive oil and an excellent “old” balsamic vinegar – the composition – a dream.

Also, the bruschetta was top. The St. Georg Steakhouse uses the same bread as it is served with the steaks – crispy and lightly spread with garlic butter – on top with fresh tomato cubes, some onions & herbs – delicious.

Main Course

What can one expect from a restaurant in terms of commitment to the guest? I send this question ahead because we had actually planned to stop opposite Hamburg Central Station and enjoy the prime steaks, we are familiar with.

We reserved a week in advance for this. Four days before the appointment we wanted to be on the safe side that the famous Hamburg steakhouse would have enough slices of prime steaks ready for us.

What we never would have expected was that the restaurant management couldn’t / didn’t want to make us an offer – quite the opposite, they were talking about weeks that it would take to resume the previously consistent prime steak offer – they didn’t want to buy any extra beef for our appointment – very, very unfortunate.

But every medal has two sides and see there, the ad hoc contacted boss of the Steakhouse St. Georg was immediately ready to “catch” us. Although not on the map, he used the weekend and the following Monday to find the best meat for our steak event.

He was at the meat merchant of his confidence – even at Delta, finally he found what he was looking for in the Metro (Thanks again for this effort!).

So, nothing stood in the way of the event anymore. The consistency of the meat as well as its aroma was remarkable – as was the craftsmanship of the grill employee. In the end, we had a much better quality of ribeye on the bone than we had found in the known competition – and this at a price that was much cheaper but still fair.

Desserts

Each one of us had eaten between a thousand and a thousand and three hundred grams – with the best will in the world there was no room for sweets anymore!

Conclusion

We can make a clear recommendation for Steakhouse St. Georg. Those who love steaks should definitely try it out – especially if the Indian chef grill master is on site, there is only little distance between the taste and the INN steakhouses in Hamburg.

The prices in the Steakhouse St. Georg are more than fair with the quality offered so far & in the comparison to competitors.

Special mention should also find the lemon lemonade, because it is just like in Bavaria – this taste has almost nothing to do with industrial sugar water – just try it.

From us a clear YES for a visit in the Steakhouse St. Georg!

Update [2017-08-10]
